So the simple mistake  in deciding what discipline to take in 10+2, which track the student should choose in undergraduate studies and which choice they need to make in post-graduate studies defines the career journey for every individual. These small things that students take so lightly gives a rude awakening when they finish either at undergrad or after post-graduation levels.

Majority of parents are under the notion that by just sending their kids to a college is enough in securing a proper career. We are still using very old methods in making career choices for students such as medicine or engineering, but the world around us is drastically changing.

The naked truth is that the current generation is also changing with times and that new career options are being created as each industry is transforming. We cannot look at things just locally. The working environment has become global and companies demand much more than just a degree certificate and the marks they get.

We need to keep in mind that in 2-3 decades from now, Asia will be leading the world and India will play a key part in it. We will continue to be in the growth path as long as we produce the right professionals who are more practical, professional and have hands-on skills to cater to the demand.

We all know that time is precious and you cannot get back time. There are so many schools/colleges/universities mushrooming across India but, when you look at the quality of students graduating from these institutions, they are below par to meet the demands of the changing industry.

There is so much time in the hands of students during college days to build skills to get ready for the real world, but it is being wasted without their knowledge. Student life is not just having fun but it needs to be balanced and it should help them reach their goal.

In the growing Indian economy today, employability is one factor that is proving to be a bottleneck in the economy’s future growth. There are more than 360 universities and over 18,000 colleges in India.

Thousands of students are graduating from colleges, but studies proved that only 25% of them are employable. This means that 75 graduates out of every 100 are qualified but not employable. This mainly happens because of lack of soft-skills, grooming, people-skills and self-development, career planning, which limits the ability of a person to be effective in personal, business or job lives.

While the above is true, corporates are finding it difficult to source suitable candidates who can make meaningful contributions to their organizations. Majority of the students getting out of colleges and universities are found to be lacking in life skills like Effective Communication, Grooming, Confidence, Presentation Skills, Relationship Management, etc. Moreover, the candidates also lack in focus & positive attitude. Due to this, majority of candidates either do not get the job they deserve or face major hurdles where they are eventually absorbed into a job.

In this ever increasing world of work pressures, peer pressures, traffic congestions, never ending commitments, deadlines etc., there is really no time left for parents to provide proper guidance to their kids so that they can make the right career choice.
